Daniel Jacob Radcliffe was born in England on July 23, 1989. He is the only child of Alan Radcliffe and Marcia Gresham. Daniel lives with his parents in Fulham, London and he attends to all-boys private school in London. Daniel enjoys playing pranks and being with his friends. He has earned 6 million pounds so far portraying Harry Potter, making him the second richest teenage in Britain behind Prince Harry’s 14 million pounds. He has stated, that he really doesn’t care about the money and basically all he buys with the money is CDs. Dan says that he loves music and especially he likes rock and punk.
Daniel Radcliffe had had a passion for acting since he was just a 5-year-old child. His parents weren’t thrilled of the idea and they did not encourage Daniel to go for movie roles. He’s first acting role, however, came in 1999 when Daniel was cast as young David Copperfield in ‘David Copperfield’ and he starred along side Dame Maggie Smith and Bob Hoskins. Daniels performance was described as ‘heartbreaking’. After that, the young actor made an appearance in ‘The Tailor of Panama’ in 2001 having a change to act with Jamie Lee Curtis, Geoffrey Rush and Pierce Brosnan. But the movie that was going to make Daniel one of the most famous teenagers nowadays was yet to come. The casting for Harry Potter movies had been started long ago and many young boys had auditioned to get the role of Harry. It was Daniel, however, who got the part. Daniel was in theatre when producer David Heyman first saw him. Daniel’s father Alan knew David from work and he introduced Daniel to David. Daniel was asked to audition for Harry Potter and he went through couple of auditions and was then cast to play Harry Potter. When he first heard, that he’d been chosen to play Harry Potter, Daniel cried. He has said that it was probably one of the most defining moments of his life.
Daniel wasn’t wrong: After the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s/Sorcerer’s Stone in 2001, almost everybody knew, who Daniel Radcliffe was. Daniel returned on the big screen as the second movie, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, was released in 2002. Both movies brought him a lot of publicity and Daniel was also nominated for several awards; he won Best Newcomer at the Variety Club Awards in February 2002 and received the Sir James Carreras Award for Outstanding New Talent for his role in Harry Potter at The Variety Club Show business Awards 2002. In 2002 Time Kids voted Daniel to be the ‘person of the year’. Daniel visited many talk shows and events and critics said that he’s the most promising future actor.
After a while away from cinema world, Daniel returned to shoot the third Harry Potter movie, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in which he had the opportunity to play alongside his idol, Gary Oldman. After the release of PoA Daniel has made several TV appearances and he, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson have all received many compliments of their work in the third movie. They all will return to big screen in November 2005, when Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is released.
The Harry Potter movies aren’t slowing down. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire quickly climbed to the top of the movie charts. Dan’s acting skills improved greatly. After filming stopped for GoF, Dan was already planning his next move! He signed to play the eldest of a group of orphan boys. Daniel Radcliffe took part in a play called Equus. Daniel plays the character of troubled teenager named Alan Strang. This was one of Daniel’s most amazing works other than the Harry Potter series because he believed that it really pushed him as an actor. The play also attracted a lot of press because Daniel had a scene where he would be naked.
Expanding his acting career, Daniel took part in another film called December Boys. The film is based on Michael Noonan’s novel and focuses on four orphans who leave their orphanage for a holiday by the sea. December Boys is released in September of 2007.
Just after filming finished for December Boys in January 2006, Dan returned to the glasses. Dan has stated many times that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is one of his favorites out of the series. He is looking forward to the kissing scene with Katie Leung (Cho Chang). The fifth installment’s release date is July 11, 2007! Daniel Radcliffe has officially agreed to stay for the last two Harry Potter films. Daniel is also joins the cast for a new movie called My Boy Jack.
After almost an entire month of promotional projects for December Boys and completing filming on My Boy Jack, Daniel finds himself back on the Harry Potter set. Filming for the sixth installment of the Harry Potter series began at the end of September. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is set to be released next year around November.
